Have you seen this ?
When you combine that with this, you finally stop killing your loved-ones on the road.
If you're willing to do 20mph max at all times, you can actually take away all the lanes and signals and controls and send your accident rates plummeting. Suddenly bike riding and skating (and even walking the dog or stopping to chat) become possible in the same space.
The difference in maximum speed is made up for in the flow: you don't stop. Maintaining 20mph is a helluva lot more efficient than going from 0 to 50 and back at every light and stop sign.
When you stop sacrificing the safety of *everyone* for the sake of automobile drivers, you get incredible health and welfare benefits, at the same time saving money on controls and signaling of all kinds.
Nice. And a big middle finger to the 700 deaths caused by automobiles every week in the good old USA.*
