a tidbit
Normally I don't put seriously geeky stuff in the Log, but this is kinda neat. People have asked me if I'm concerned about the bandwidth that Fotola.com is going to eat up, and I am.
But not that concerned.
Here's why: if you try to place a fullsize image on your own website, the request gets automagically redirected to the thumbnail version by the webserver. To wit:Rollover the image and you'll see the address of the fullsize (-web) version, which is 52KB. But the image that's here is a thumbnail at 5KB.
Yes, there will still be major bandwidth suckers, but nothing like what there would be if Fotola was a traditional image host.
Neat trick: go to the fullsize page at Fotola.com, then click your back button. Your browser has cached the big image, and doesn't check with the server for it, thereby skipping the redirect. But then, it's not downloaded a second time, either.
